A blast from the past:
Sherbet Pips are tiny pink and white sweets with a sherbet fizz!
Sweet Memories was started in 2005 in a Grade II listed building in High Street, Arundel.
A chance reading of "Sweets, a history of candy" by Tim Richardson and a small addiction to buying old sweet tins blossomed into a fascination in the history of our age old confectionery industry and the nostalgia that surrounds it.
In an age where Britain has lost a lot of it's traditional industry to cheap imports and foreign takeovers the confectionery industry in Britain is quietly booming. Many manufacturers are still producing delicious traditional confectionery to century old recipes using traditional production methods and still making boiled sweets in copper pans over open fires.
We have a strict selection policy for our sweets. It is important to us that our sweets taste like you remember, and our customers in the sweet shop are very honest and forthright about this.
We have chosen our sweets from manufacturers with long histories in the confectionery industry, many of whom are surprisingly still family business's, for example, Ross's of Edinburgh and William Santus. And of course there are still companies synonymous with certain sweets. It can only be Bassett's Liquorice Allsorts, Bassett's Jelly Babies and Maynard's Wine Gums.
We regularly taste test our sweets and compare different makes. We sell Sharp's Strawberry, Lemon and Toffee Bonbons because 'we' like the delicate powdery icing sugar in a thick layer with hard toffee centres, but some prefer a soft eating toffee Bonbon such as McCowan's.
All our online orders will be hand weighed especially for you straight from the jar. We hope you enjoy shopping with us online, but try and visit us personally in our sweet shop, we would love to meet you.
